Retroware have announced that the Programancer’s side-scrolling action game based on the, ehm…well, controversial Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest, The Transylvania Adventure of Simon Quest is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC at some point in 2025.

Simon’s Quest is far from a bad game but compared to the standards set by the well-known NES classics and other games in the Castlevania series, it’s quite lackluster. I’d say it deserves to be put on the autopsy table to figure out all the details that went wrong.

Nonetheless, it had some good moments too and this is what The Transylvania Adventure of Simon Quest hopes to evoke. The game will have a non-linear progression and a day/night cycle. The graphics have a very similar vibe to what we saw in Castlevania 2 and the main protagonist (Simon Quest looks almost the same as Simon Belmont. The game will also feature minigames, customizable difficulty, and even “Richter slide kicking.”

I mean, we will see how this turns out in the end, but for now, it looks promising at least. Regardless of how much I dislike Castlevania 2, I’ll give this one a try next year.
