Falcom have announced the next entry in their long-running Ys RPG series, Ys X: Nordics, and as it stands now, the game will launch next year.

The news came along during an annual meeting and was later officially confirmed. Ys X is the latest numerical entry in the franchise targeting PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch. It’s currently set to launch in Japan at some point in 2023.

As the official description says, we’ll be following our hero Adol Christin in yet another adventure, this time set in northern Obelia Bay. You’ll get to visit many islands and you’ll find many sea-faring people as well as some immortal undead who will lurk from the shadows to make everyone’s lives as miserable as possible.

The game will allow you to control a ship, for the first time ever. As Adol doesn’t have a good history with boats, it may not be the best idea to put him in charge of it, but hey, maybe he matured in the meantime and won’t end up crashing.

The action is very flashy (as expected) and we’ll be seeing a brand-new Cross Action system that will allow us to fight in these two modes. Solo Mode will let us control one fighter with automatic attacks and support from a partner, while Combination Mode lets us control both characters for a series of combos.

We have no concrete information about an English localization at this point but I’m sure we’ll get the confirmation sooner rather than later.
