Shinjo Hashimoto, a well-known veteran of the Final Fantasy series, will be retiring from Square Enix after spending 27 years at the company.

Hashimoto joined Square Enix back in 1995, and he has worked on pretty much every Final Fantasy title since that point. He also played a major role in the creation of the Kingdom Hearts games.

Hashimoto issued an announcement via his official Twitter account saying:

“Today, Tuesday, May 31, I will be retiring. I would like to thank everyone in various fields for their support during my tenure. From now on, I would like to support you as a Square Enix fan. Thank you very much.”

Speaking of Final Fantasy, Tetsuya Nomura, the series’ acclaimed director and developer, recently gave us a hint at some exciting news coming our way in June. He spoke during a live stream focused on Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier, which is a mobile battle royale and he said that this month will be the twenty-fifth anniversary of the game’s original release on PlayStation.
