Call of Duty: Vanguard Review

A massive thank you to the developers for providing me with a review copy of Vanguard for me to cover for you all!

I can honestly say that this is the first Call Of Duty that I didn’t keep up to date with and saw the least amount of hype with because I think the audience just saw it as a typical release for the money and all that but there are aspects I agree with and other parts that I was pleasantly surprised at so here we go.

I’m going to start off with the campaign but as always there won’t be any major spoilers, just the structure of the campaign since it takes a different approach. You are part of an elite team made of specialist from all over the world regions ranging from Britain to Russian and even Australian. I won’t lie, I was really stuck into the story though. I’m normally not one to be interested in the story if it just keeps being with different people, Watch Dogs Legion is the best example here, but this was actually pulled off well.

Your team ends up in prison with the Nazis interrogating you with pure violence and reasoning of course. As you are all locked up you each have your arguments on how to proceed with escaping but as it goes on you then experience their back stories and how they were in their home country or previous battles they participated in during the war before each character was in the team. That is all I’ll mention about the campaign, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and I’m doing my Veteran playthrough as we speak.

Now let us talk about Multiplayer. Again, I didn’t really expect much from this to be honest but once again I was surprised because I do find myself playing it quite a bit. I tend to only use the MG42 while mounting against walls because that gun is an actual savage, insane fire rate, lovely amount of ammo and with the right perks you can sprint at quick speed and a long duration, which is ideal in this fast-paced multiplayer. My favourite mode though is anything with Blitz in the title as this increases the pace by having a lot of players in the lobby on the smaller maps so its constant fire and constant action. I really need to emphasise how surprised I really am with this as I didn’t expect much.

Ok, now we need to talk about Zombies, my favourite mode when it comes to Call Of Duty and I need to say this and I quote the Don from The Godfather. “Look how they massacred my boy”. Seriously I don’t understand what happened. The weird thing is the zombie’s mode was literally developed by Treyarch in this title so I figured “they know what they are doing with zombies, they’ve totally got this”. The moment I loaded it up something felt off and I still don’t understand a lot of their choices, like why is it basically a condensed, mediocre version of Cold War Zombies. It’s as if they did a smaller scale zombie mode purely to make people go back to Cold War. What they have done is taken the concept of Outbreak, put it on one tiny map and just put the objectives in so there isn’t really a round based survival type and it just doesn’t make sense to me, so I’ve got Cold Ware installed for Zombies and Vanguard for multiplayer.

As you can tell the majority of this review was really moaning about the zombie mode but that is because my favourite has always been zombies, I have the best memories from them and I can never let it go so I love it when they nail that mode but I’m really hoping feedback is taken on board and they get it together. I do believe this game is worth grabbing but not really for the full price.
