Blizzard have announced that their hero shooter Overwatch is getting cross-play support in the near future. Best news ever since the announcement of Overwatch 2 if you ask me.

The feature itself was unveiled in a FAQ and a new Developer Update video from game director Aaron Keller. To access it, console players will have to link their console accounts to a Battle.net account, and once the feature is enabled, console players will be matched with other console players. Meanwhile, PC players will be matched with both PC and console players, but the Competetive Play modes won't use cross-play and PC owners won't be able to disable this feature.

Keller stated that cross-progression won't be available when the feature goes live, but it's "something that the Overwatch team is excited to work on in the future". Another important thing to note is that all players who log in to Overwatch by end of the year will get a free Golden Lootbox too. Hooray!

We don't know when cross-play will go live, but it will arrive to Xbox Series X'S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC shortly. Meanwhile, we have this developer update video to gawk at:
