If we would sit down and count all the records that Nintendo broke in their long history it would be a really, I mean, a really long session. It would be a good drinking game as well ("take a shot every time you see Nintendo breaking the record").

Anyway, according to this article on Business Wire (and the company's internal data), Nintendo nailed it yet again as Switch became the fastest selling console ever on the US market! In only 10 months, it managed to sell roughly 4.8 million units which was more than enough to beat the previous record holder - their own Nintendo Wii.

It's not difficult to see why. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was a tremendous success from day 1 and, arguably, it is already often regarded as the best Zelda game in the series, beating even the timeless Ocarina of Time. Heck, many people already treat it as one of the best games of all time too. This title alone was responsible for a majority of these numbers, no doubt about that. Super Mario Odyssey didn't have much less to say either as the newest adventure of everyone's favorite plumber managed to successfully win the hearts of millions of gamers worldwide and it set some tight standards for all the future platformers to follow (Mario games included).

Nintendo used the opportunity to celebrate with a little tweet:

As Reggie Fils-Aime, the president of Nintendo of America stated: "Fans across the country have experienced the joy of playing their favorite games at home or on the go. Now that many more people have received Nintendo Switch systems for the holidays, we look forward to bringing them fun new surprises in 2018 and beyond". We certainly hope for the same and we hope that 2018 will be just as successful for Nintendo Switch as 2017 was!
